I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router. I am able to set up and connect to the internet through the router on my main PC through the ethernet wired connection (my broadband ISP is Blueyonder).
I have no problems connecting to the internet through the router on my main PC. The IP address is shown as 198.168.1.100, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and gateway and DHCP as 192.168.1.1. The DNS servers are the Blueyonder servers.
The trouble I'm having is that whenever I try to make a wireless connection on the 2nd PC (which is at the moment positioned about 4 feet away from the main PC), I cannot get an IP address and I cannot then access the internet on the main PC. PC number 2 shows that is is connected to my network with an excellent signal but has an IP address of 169.......
I have followed several pieces of advice such as cloning the MAC address, powering everything down etc, but the same thing happens everytime I try to wirelessly connect on PC no. 2. I have so far been unable to get an IP address on the 2nd PC.
I have taken the PC into work and a colleague has tested the router and he was able to make a wireless connection with no problems, so I know that the router does work.
